The first batch of imported eggs arrives tomorrow – A change in tax prices

Trade Minister Nalin Fernando says that the first batch of imported eggs will arrive in Sri Lanka tomorrow (27).

A stock containing 02 million eggs has been acquired by the Trading (General) Corporation.

The government had taken steps to import eggs to Sri Lanka in view of the rising price of eggs in the local market and the shortage of eggs.

Meanwhile, the special commodity tax imposed on imported eggs has been revised.

Accordingly, the tax imposed on an egg is reduced to Rs. 1 from Rs. 50.

That is for a period of three months.

According to the Ministry of Finance, the revised tax will come into effect from February 21.
