The Badulla Police have started investigations to arrest a person who is said to have defrauded businessmen and other people in various parts of the country by pretending to be an agent of a major book publishing company in the country.
It is stated in the complaints made to the Badulla Police that the person has cheated several businessmen of Badulla area in recent days by saying that they will distribute books and school equipment printed by well-known book companies in the country and give incentives and large commissions to the businessmen who sell them.
The police also say that he has taken five thousand rupees to make a notice board in the business place for selling books and another five thousand rupees to provide a photocopier and a reloading machine etc. from those businessmen.
According to the police, this person has been going from area to area, changing mobile phone numbers and defrauding businessmen of various levels and taking their money.
A well-known book publishing company in Colombo has also filed a complaint against this person to the Badulla Police.
