Former MP brewed liquor in home

A former minister, the husband of a member of Matara Pradeshiya Sabha, and his henchman have been arrested by a team of officers at the Matara Police Headquarters for secretly sipping liquor inside a three storey house in the Makawita area in Matara.

The suspect’s wife is also a government employee in the health sector. She is a member from the United National Party.

Police say that the husband is also a former UNP MP. Police say that these people now represent the Samagi Balawegaya party.

Police say that the former MP had illegally brewed liquor with a henchman using a gas stove in a room in the partially constructed house.

During the raid, the police had seized 20 liters of goda, more than 4 liters of kassippu and the equipment used to filter them in the possession of the former MP and his henchman.
