The All-Island Poultry Traders’ Association says that there is a possibility of a severe shortage of eggs and chicken meat in the next two to three months due to the shortage of raw materials for poultry food production.

The importation of corn has been completely banned and the price of a kilo of local corn has risen to Rs. 95.

Accordingly, the prices of eggs and chicken meat have gone up significantly, said the President of the All-Island Poultry Traders Association, Ajith Gunasekera.

Ajith Gunasekera said that small and medium scale industrialists in the poultry industry are in a difficult situation as only large scale entrepreneurs have the opportunity to import corn used for poultry food production.
