A decision by several parties to boycott the President’s inaugural speech

The main opposition, Samagi Jana Balawegaya, and Freedom People’s Alliance have decided to boycott the inaugural session of the new Parliament on the 8th.

Chaminda Wijesiri, Member of Parliament of the SJB stated that this decision was taken during a special discussion held today (6).

It is further reported that the party has also taken a decision not to participate in any event related to the President’s inaugural speech at the new parliament.

Meanwhile, MP Chaminda Wijesiri mentioned that there is a proposal to postpone the local government election in that speech.

Meanwhile, Prof. G. L. Peiris, a member of parliament of the Freedom People’s Alliance, said in a press conference held today that his group of MPs decided to boycott the President’s inaugural speech.

The MP mentioned that his group of MPs will not participate in the show in Parliament on February 8.

He also mentioned that “the people do not need to listen to inaugural speeches and policy statements and that the current problems need solutions.”
