Election units have been established in all 609 police stations throughout the island for the purpose of the local government elections to carry out coordination activities related to the elections and to conduct investigations into incidents such as violence.
OICs have also been appointed to those units.
In addition to the election units operating at the police station level, special election operation offices have been established in every DIG office and Superintendent of Police offices in the island.
These election units and operational cells are coordinated by the General Secretariat of Elections established at the Police Headquarters.
The Inspector General of Police has already appointed Senior Superintendent of Police Mr. Ashoka Dharmasena as the head of the General Secretariat of Elections established in Police Headquarters.
