The International Football Federation (FIFA) has imposed a ban on the Football Federation of Sri Lanka until further notice.

It is effective from yesterday (21).

In a circular to its member associations, FIFA Secretary General Fatma Zamora has stated that as a result of the decision taken by the FIFA Council Bureau on January 21, 2023, the Football Federation of Sri Lanka (FFSL) has been suspended until further notice in accordance with Article 16 of the FIFA Constitution.

Accordingly, with effect from 21 January 2023, the Sri Lanka Football Federation shall lose all its membership rights as defined in Article 13 of the FIFA Statutes until further notice.

Therefore, until this suspension is lifted, the Sri Lanka Football Federation representatives and football clubs are no longer entitled to participate in international matches.

‘This means that none of the Sri Lanka Football Federations or any of its members or officials can benefit from any development programmes, courses or training from FIFA and/or the AFC.’

Finally, he said in the letter that the FIFA Council Bureau or the FIFA Council could lift the suspension at any time before the next FIFA Congress.
