2 village officers who forged documents for kidney smuggling were arrested

A broker involved in the kidney smuggling that took place in connection with a private hospital located in Borella and two village officers who prepared forged documents for the smuggling were arrested yesterday evening (16) by the officers of the Colombo Crime Division.

The police say that the two arrested village officers are working in the villages of Ragiriya and Kolonnawa, Dahampura.

These two village officers are residents of Rajagiriya Kalapaluwawa and Bomiriya.

These two village officers have been arrested due to investigations revealing that these village officials gave fake village service certificates to three people who sold kidneys to three people who received kidney transplants at Ragiriya hospital stating that they are residents of other places instead of their own place of residence. Investigations have also revealed that they have charged an amount of Rs. 20,000 for each certificate.

The broker is a 35-year-old resident of Aamar street. Investigations have also revealed that he has received Rs. 150,000 for finding one person who is willing to sell his kidneys.

This broker also told a private TV channel about kidney trafficking and publicized the fact that kidney trafficking is taking place in a private hospital in Rajagiriya. It is due to the fact that he did not receive the promised money of brokerage fees for 05 people he found to transplant kidneys to others.

Apart from these three, only one suspect has been arrested in connection with this kidney trafficking. They are Bai, a resident of Kajima Estate, Colombo 14. Colombo Crime Division states that he is also a broker. This broker is currently in remand.
