The construction work of the Central Expressway has been temporarily suspended.
A large number of villages including Gampaha were flooded by heavy rainfall. With that abnormal flooding, people accused that this situation was caused by the blockage of water because of the construction of the central highway.
Minister of Highways Johnston Fernando appointed a committee to look into the allegations.
“Until the committee will review the construction plan of the Central Highway and arrive at a final decision, the construction of Gampaha has been temporarily suspended,” said Minister Prasanna Ranatunga, a member of that committee.
