According to an invitation from the Ministry of Agriculture, a Malaysian national who visited Sri Lanka for a business discussion was arrested on the 02nd at Katunayake Airport.
He has been arrested in connection with fraud by receiving a sum of Rs. 2.5 million from a Sri Lankan businessman and giving him invalid checks instead.
This Malaysian named Rajo Isha Mitchell committed this fraud in 2016. In this regard, a businessman residing in Bambalapitiya had filed a complaint with the Colombo Fraud Investigation Bureau in 2021.
The Fraud Investigation Bureau has reported the facts to the Colombo Fort Court regarding this complaint. The court had imposed a flight ban against this Malaysian who had left the country at that time. He was arrested on the 2nd at the airport, according to that court order.
The Malaysian who was arrested by the immigration officers at the airport and handed over to the Colombo Fraud Investigation Bureau was brought before the Colombo Fort Court. On the 2nd, the court took steps to release him by taking his passport into custody.
