Electricity and Energy Minister Mr. Kanchana Wijesekera says that 07 coal ships are expected to be brought to the island next January.
The first coal ship is scheduled to arrive in the island on January 5th.
Recently, various parties had expressed the opinion that it will not be possible to bring in coal ships, and if that is the case, the Norechholai power plant will have to be switched off, so there will be a long power cut.
However, the Minister of Electricity had said that plans have been prepared for the necessary procurement activities and therefore the required stocks of coal can be brought in and he believes that there will be no room for a long power cut.
