Rice importation was stopped

The Ministry of Finance has issued a gazette notice temporarily banning the import of several types of rice until further notice.

It states that the rice stocks being brought to Sri Lanka by ships and the orders for which letters of credit have been issued before December 09, can be released from the port through a special license.

As the Minister of Finance, President Ranil Wickramasinghe has issued this gazette announcement on December 09, 2022.

The Minister of Agriculture had previously requested the Minister of Finance, President Ranil Wickramasinghe to stop the importation of rice for the coming period as there is sufficient stock of rice in the country.
