The Police Special Task Force has uncovered a racket of mixing substandard salt with MOP fertilizer (red powder) issued by the government and repackaging it in government packaging.
A place where salt is mixed with fertilizers in Attapalam, Nedavur was raided yesterday (24) by the Special Task Force’s officers in the Tirukkovil camp. 06 persons were arrested, along with 38,650 kg (about 40 tons) of fertilizer mixed with salt at that place. The suspects have been handed over with the fertilizer stock to the Ampara district assistant director officer in charge of the National Fertilizer Secretariat for further investigation.
A team of officers, including the Acting Camp Commander InspectorS. K. Kannangara, conducted this raid according to the orders and instructions of Special Task Force Commander DIG Attorney Waruna Jayasundara under the supervision of Zonal Commander Ampara Senior Superintendent of Police Sylvester Wijesinghe.
