The sponsorship, extended by the former Chief of Defence Staff and Commander of the Army, General Jagath Jayasuriya (Retd), his spouse Mrs Manjulika Jayasuriya, former President, Army Seva Vanitha Unit and several other donors enabled Tissamaharama Divisional Secretariat to supply essential dry ration packs to 65 low-income group families in Tissamaharama area on Sunday (6) at the Divisional Secretariat premises.
Organized by Hambantota-based 12 Infantry Division HQ of the Security Force HQ – Central, the distribution of relief packs, each worth Rs 15000, was attended by General Jagath Jayasuriya (Retd) as the Chief Guest with Mrs Manjulika Jayasuriya, Major General Mihidu Perera, General Officer Commanding, 12 Infantry Division, Divisional Secretary for Tissamaharama, 122 Infantry Brigade Commander, Brigadier N Kulasekara and other representative donors of the project.
The distribution of those relief packs was joined by the donors, General Jagath Jayasuriya (Retd), Mrs Manjulika Jayasuriya, Major General Mihidu Perera, other donors and the Divisional Secretary for Tissamaharama. A total of 27 Army personnel of the 122 Infantry Brigade made arrangements in connection with the distribution.
