A fourth-year student of Moratuwa University was arrested yesterday (12) by the Uhana Police, who engaged in money fraud by posting advertisements on Facebook that they would provide Apple phones at a low price.
This university student, who is a resident of Kosgala, Ratnapura, has been remanded until the 22nd after being produced before the Ampara Additional Magistrate.
This student is an undergraduate in textile technology. This student has been arrested after investigating two complaints made by two persons including a woman resident of Kumarigama, Uhana who were caught in this online scam. The amount that this student has defrauded those two is Rs. 390,000. Investigations have revealed that this student has cheated a large number of people.
