Some may question why the government is paying so much attention to the security of 2030 and the armed forces, but if this is not done, the country has no future, says President Ranil Wickramasinghe.
A competitive export-oriented economy is expected in Sri Lanka.
Therefore, President Ranil Wickramasinghe emphasized that the security skills and strategic skills of the armed forces should be utilized and the importance of increasing the allocations for that purpose.
President Ranil Wickramasinghe mentioned this while addressing the 2022 graduation ceremony of Sir John Kotalawala Defense University held at the Bandaranaike International Conference Hall in Colombo on November 11th afternoon.
President Ranil Wickramasinghe said that today we live in a different world from the era in which we were born, when we were born there was no problem with the Indian Ocean and he also recalled that no one had paid attention to the Indian Ocean.
The President said that the targeted objectives of the export economy cannot be met if shipping cannot be carried out freely and asked what would happen if there were obstacles in the transportation of goods.
President Ranil Wickramasinghe recalled the experience when people could not leave the country and could not transport goods by land or sea in 2021 and pointed out that the future of the country depends on the ability to transport goods even when the environment we are in is out of our control.
President Ranil Wickramasinghe emphasized that the actions of other parties may affect Sri Lanka, but we must use political and diplomatic skills as well as military skills to ensure that our immigration rights and our right to travel by land and sea are not hindered in any way.
The President said that many people prefer to enrol in Sir John Kotalawala University rather than an ordinary university and expressed his appreciation for it and said that he has advised the Ministry of Finance and the Defense Secretary to start another campus of Sir John Kotalawala Defense University in Kurunegala for social subjects.
