202 Kandakadu inmates were remanded – Search is on for the others

202 inmates of the Kandakadu Treatment and Rehabilitation Center have been remanded until the 17th.

It was when the detainees arrested there were brought to the Polonnaruwa Magistrate’s Court in connection with a conflict that occurred the day before yesterday (06) at around ten o’clock in the night.

The security forces have found three other detainees who went missing during the conflict and it is reported that around 30 other detainees are missing.

Recently, a conflict broke out between two groups of inmates at Polonnaruwa Welikanda Kandakadu Rehabilitation Center and a group escaped.

At the time of the conflict, 547 people were there.

211 people who fled at the time of the conflict and were involved in the conflict were taken into police custody for judicial purposes.

In order to control the conflict situation, the police stations of Aralaganwila, Manampitiya, Welikanda, Higurakgoda, and Pulasthigama and army personnel had to be called.

Also, President Ranil Wickremesinghe has asked Justice Minister Wijedasa Rajapaksa to give him a full report regarding the related incident.
