Navy divers found the body of the woman who jumped from the bridge on the Gampaha-Minuwangoda road into Atthanagalu Oya last evening.
There are also people who saw that this woman went to the temple near the place where she jumped into the river and stayed there for a long time crying.
It is said that she then stood near the bridge and looked at the stream and asked several people passing by whether the place was deep. A few moments later she had disappeared from the scene and only a pair of women’s shoes were found on the bridge.
The Gampaha police had been informed about this. As several crocodiles were roaming around the place where the woman jumped into the river, the body was found this morning by Navy divers following safety measures during the operation to find the dead body. But her identity was not revealed until this evening, the police said.
