Attention has been paid to bringing down the prices of bakery products including bread and to controlling the price of wheat flour.
The Ministry of Trade says that from today till December 31, the opportunity will be given to import wheat flour into Sri Lanka through the open account system.
This was stated in a discussion held today (28) between the Ministry of Trade, Commerce and Food Safety and the representatives of the Importers of Essential Foods Association.
This discussion was held to provide people with essential food items at low prices without shortage during the coming festive season.
Meanwhile, the Importers of Essentials Association says that the price of a kilogram of wheat flour in the wholesale market in Pettah has been reduced to Rs. 250.
He said that this price will continue as wheat flour import was allowed for a period of two months through open accounts.
