President Ranil Wickramasinghe has ordered the relevant departments to conduct an impartial investigation into the incident of driving vehicles in a way that harms animals in Yala Park.
Cabinet Spokesman Minister Bandula Gunawardena said this today (26) while attending the press conference announcing the Cabinet decisions.
The President has instructed to carry out those investigations without political influence.
Meanwhile, a three-member committee will be appointed for further investigation of the relevant officials who did not intervene to control the incident.
The Ministry of Forest Resources and Conservation has decided to appoint the relevant committee to conduct the investigations related to the dereliction of duty by the officials who worked in connection with the Yala Park and their failure to inform the higher officials about the incident.
This group was accused of driving around 35 jeeps in the Yala Park in such a way as to harm the animals and the videos and photos showing the way they traveled have been criticized in the society.
Some reports had been published that the sons of cabinet ministers were among the group.
However, it was also reported that 6 people who were violating the park rules have surrendered to the wildlife officers.
It is said that today (26th) the group will be presented to the Tissamaharama Magistrate’s Court along with seven vehicles used for the journey.
