The Committee of University Vice-Chancellors and Directors mentions that there is a new trend of harassing university students using modern technology in a very subtle way.

In addition to the physical, mental or sexual forms that have taken place in universities so far, it is stated in the announcement that the new ‘cyber bullying’ has been introduced.

It is also stated in the announcements that the harassment of freshmen by the collective power of groups supported by certain political sectors has become a complex problem in universities.

The announcement made by the Vice-Chancellors and Directors Committee also states that no Vice-Chancellor condones, supports or protects the perpetrators of bullying and strongly condemns it.

It also states that the support of the legal sector of civil society, political parties and the media is needed to remove bullying from universities.

The Vice-Chancellors of all universities and directors of higher education institutions in Sri Lanka have signed the announcement.
