Uva Provincial Governor Mr. A. J. M. Musammil has dissolved the Kataragama Regional Council with effect from midnight yesterday (22).
Earlier, the governor had appointed retired court judge H. M. R. Anura Kumara to check whether the council including the chairman of the xouncil have done any wrongdoing in the past.
Meanwhile, the governor has temporarily suspended the activities of the Kataragama local council since the 9th of last May until the investigation is carried out.
According to the judge’s report, the governor has taken steps to dissolve the Kataragama local council and the Monaragala assistant local government commissioner has been assigned the responsibility of exercising the powers of the Kataragama local council.
