The Ministry of Health has taken steps to check the presence of heavy metals in imported food including rice.
The Deputy Director General of the Environmental and Occupational Health and Food Safety Unit, Mr. Tilak Siriwardena, said that previously only selected samples of ingredients of the food items were tested.
He also stated that 15 containers of rice, which were confirmed to be unfit for human consumption during the tests, were recently reshipped.
