Subsidy for paddy farmers who grow maha season with organic fertilizers

The finance committee has approved to give a subsidy of Rs. 20,000 to paddy farmers who use organic fertilizers during the Maha season.

The amount to be allocated by the government for this subsidy is Rs. 16,000 million.

To encourage the use of organic fertilizers, this proposal was presented to the relevant committee by the Minister of Agriculture, Wildlife and Forest Resources Conservation Mr. Mahinda Amaraweera.

The Minister of Agriculture expressed his views in this regard yesterday (15) by participating in a program organized by the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations.

In the upcoming 2022/23 season, the Department of Agriculture has recommended that 30% organic fertilizers and 70% chemical fertilizers be used for cultivation.

The Ministry further mentions that President Ranil Wickramasinghe has given the approval to release a bundle of urea fertilizer weighing 50 kg for an acre to paddy farmers who use chemical fertilizers this season for an amount of Rs. 10,000.
