The Ministry of Labor and Foreign Employment has introduced three telephone numbers, including a hotline number, to address the problems related to obtaining the electric vehicle import license that foreign employees are legally entitled to after sending money to Sri Lanka.

Accordingly, the necessary information can be obtained by giving a call to Mr. Prabodha Kaggodaarachchi on the hotline number 0773 039 034 or 0112 368 175 or to the Ministry’s Senior Assistant Secretary Telephone on 0112 582 447.

From May 1, 2022 to April 30, 2023, remittances of more than US$3,000 will qualify for a motorcycle import permit with a CIF value of 50% less than the amount remitted.

From May 1, 2022 to December 31, 2022, an electric car import permit can be obtained upon remittance of USD 20,000 or more.

Accordingly, the opportunity to import an electric car, a double cab, a van or a tipper is available.

Applications for obtaining these vehicle import licenses have now been posted on the website of the Ministry of Labor and Foreign Employment and the website of the Sri Lanka Foreign Employment Bureau.

The Ministry has further stated that the applications should be completed and submitted to the Ministry of Labor and Foreign Employment along with all related documents.

The Ministry of Labor and Foreign Employment, Mr. Manusha Nanayakkara, obtained Cabinet approval for the importation of an electric vehicle in comparison to the amount sent by foreign employees to Sri Lanka through legal means and accordingly this facility will be provided.
