Expenditure control is mandatory when making the budget of government institutions

The Secretary of the Ministry of Finance has informed the heads of government institutions that the arrangements should be strictly followed to control public expenditure.

The Ministry of Finance has issued guidelines for the preparation of budget estimates for the next year.

The Ministry of Finance has pointed out that the basic theme of preparing the 2023 budget should be transformational change through minimal inputs and it should be made the common goal of every government institution.

It is reported that the Finance Ministry Secretary Mahinda Siriwardena has issued the National Budget Circular to all Ministry Secretaries, Provincial Council Chief Secretaries, Department Heads, Corporations and Statutory Board Chairmen.

Accordingly, the purpose of the circular is to provide guidelines on the preparation of budget estimates for the year 2023 in accordance with the 2023-2025 mid-term budget framework.

Here the guidelines to be followed while preparing the budget estimates for the next year have been published.

According to the issued guidelines, the Ministry of Finance has informed that the budget estimates for the next year should be given on or before September 14.
