An agreement has been reached at the party leaders’ meeting held yesterday (07) at the Parliament Complex under the chairmanship of Prime Minister Dinesh Gunawardena to form the ‘National Assembly’ with the participation of all the political party leaders in the Parliament.
This National Assembly is established with the aim of alleviating the economic and social crisis that has arisen in the country.
According to that agreement, the speaker holds the chair of the National Assembly.
The Prime Minister, the Leader of the Opposition, the Leader of the House, the Chief Organizer of the ruling party become its members by ex officio.
The total number of members in the ‘National Assembly’ is 37, representing all the parties operating in the Parliament including representatives who are ex officio members.
In the meeting of the party leaders, there has been an agreement to submit the related proposal to the parliament as soon as possible.
