Chairman of the Welfare Benefit Board Mr. B. Wijayaratne said that a process of collecting information will be started at the island-wide level to pay welfare subsidy benefits to the people. Mr. Wijayaratne said this at a news conference held today at the Finance Ministry Auditorium in Colombo.
Mr. Wijayaratne also said that the beneficiaries of Samurdhi, the elderly, kidney disease and the disabled as well as those who are on the waiting lists for assistance to get them should complete the prescribed data sheets and hand them over to the divisional secretaries through the village officials.
He said that the applications should be completed and submitted to the Divisional Secretariat with a certification from the Village Officer, Samurdhi Officer, Social Service Officer or Elderly Rights Promotion Officer.
He said that the relevant officials will computerize the information and allocate a QR code for all the applications and start the program on the 15th of this month.
He said that the list of selected beneficiaries will be displayed and the people will be given the opportunity to appeal and disagree.
Mr. Wijayaratne also said that people will be given subsidies in January under this program to provide benefits to deserving people in a transparent manner.
