More money from Express Pearl ship to compensate fishermen

According to the Ministry of Finance, Sri Lanka has received another Rs. 911 million as the third compensation amount for the fishermen affected by the Express Pearl ship accident.

The ministry also says that the compensation will be distributed among 15032 fishermen identified in the districts of Gampaha, Colombo and Kalutara.

The Ministry of Fisheries also says that Sri Lanka has received compensation amounting to Rs. 348 million and Rs. 335 million on 2 occasions previously by the insurance company.

Fishermen have been entitled to compensation ranging from Rs. 80,000 to Rs. 240,000 depending on their type of vessel and lost income.
