The Ceylon Electricity Board says that the electricity generator that was recently disabled due to a technical fault at the Norochchole power plant will be operational again from next Monday (29).

The power board says a pipe burst in one of its generators and is under repair.

Another generator at the Norochchole Coal Plant is already out of action due to maintenance work.

The Norochchole Coal Plant consists of three generators.

One generates 300 MW, which in turn supplies 900 MW to the national grid.

Part of the electricity generated is used for the operations of the Norochchole coal plant.

Therefore, only 270 MW of electricity could be added to the national grid from one generator.

Recently, one generator went down and another generator was already stopped for essential maintenance.

Therefore, the power cut which was one hour increased to three hours due to a shortfall of 540 MW from the Norochchole coal plant to the national grid.
