The Minister of Power and Energy says that the government has proposed a direct cash subsidy for sectors dependent on kerosene.
Accordingly, the government will arrange to provide this financial subsidy to low-income families, fishing and plantation sectors.
The price of kerosene rose by Rs. 253, which was Rs. 87 previously, effective from midnight yesterday. Accordingly, the new price of a liter of kerosene is Rs. 340.
“The revision of kerosene oil prices is something that should have happened many years ago. One of the main reasons for the losses incurred by the Ceylon Petroleum Corporation was because selling oil at reduced prices. The government has proposed a direct cash subsidy for low-income families, fisheries and plantations dependent on kerosene oil as prices align with the new cost.” The minister announced.
