The Department of Agricultural Development says that all farmers growing maize in Sri Lanka will be registered online.

The department says that this electronic registration is done as a part of the GEO-GOVIYA application with an information system that includes information about all farmers in the country.

With this, it is possible to easily get all the information about the number of farmers who grow maize in our country, the amount of urea fertilizer they need, the amount of land they cultivate, the amount of harvest available, and the exact location of the cultivated land, etc.

Meanwhile, the Ministry of Agriculture mentioned it is planned to cultivate maize on about 60,000 hectares in the coming season.

The Ministry of Agriculture stated that the annual maize requirement in this country is about 450,000 tons.
