    Schools will be held for 5 days a week in the future

    Education Minister Mr. Susil Premjayantha said in Parliament today (09) that it is planned to hold schools 5 days a week in the future.

    The Minister pointed out that the regularization of fuel supply and the start of special school bus services have brought the attendance of teachers and students to schools back to normal.

    The Minister of Education said this in response to the question raised by Opposition Leader Mr. Sajith Premadasa regarding the coverage of the syllabus for children appearing for the A-level examination this year. under Standing Order 27/2.

    The Minister of Education also said that this year’s A-level examination is planned to be held in the first week of December.

    He also mentioned that the results of the A-level examination held in 2021 are expected to be released in the next two weeks.

    The Minister of Education pointed out that although the results were expected to be released on August 15, the practical examinations were not conducted on the scheduled date due to the unfavorable situation in the country.

    Usually, 400 days of school are held in two years for children appearing for the A-level examination.

    This year, schools have been held for 309 days outside the Western Province and 245 days for children in the Western Province for the children appearing for the A-level examination.

    Accordingly, the Minister of Education stated that he hopes to complete the remaining number of school days in the next three months.

    The Minister of Education clarified that a program has been prepared to inform the teaching staff through the online system by contacting all the university lecturers and professors and if there is any omission regarding the scope of the A-level, all those matters are expected to be completed within the next three months.
