SJB is asking for the chairmanships of the committees including COPE

Samagi Jana Balawegaya has requested the Speaker to give the chairmanship of all the committees of the Parliament, including the Committee on Public Business, the Public Accounts Committee, and the Finance Committee, to the MPs representing the opposition.

SJB General Secretary Mr. Ranjith Maddumabandara said that the speaker was informed about this during a party leaders’ meeting held recently.

The Secretary-General also mentioned that the speaker has expressed his agreement to give the chairmanship of the parliamentary committees to the opposition according to the previous tradition.

With the termination of the term of the Parliament, the number of main committees of the Parliament which have been abolished by now is 11.

In relation to the 03rd session of the 09th Parliament, the party leaders have discussed at length the appointment of new members to the committees including the Public Business Committee, the Public Accounts Committee, and the Finance Committee in the recently held Parliamentary Affairs Committee.
