The Army Athletics Tournament ended setting many new records

The closing ceremony of the Army Inter-Regimental Athletics, Para and Volunteers Athletics Tournament was held yesterday (04) with a new army competition record, 15 volunteer force competition records and 11 amateur athletics records being set.

It was at the Mahinda Rajapaksa Stadium in Diyagama under the chairmanship of the Commander of the Army Lt. Gen. Vikum Liyanage.

This tournament was held for the 23rd time and 1420 athletes including 229 para athletes competed in 61 events.

The Sri Lanka Infantry Regiment’s Corporal Indika won the best para-athlete title, while the men’s track and field challenge trophy was won by the Sri Lanka Army’s Mechanical Engineering Corps.

The para athletics overall championship was won by the Sri Lanka Infantry, the volunteer brigade athletics championship was won by the Sri Lanka Army Mechanical Engineering Corps, and the inter-regimental athletics overall championship was won by the Sri Lanka Army Army Corps.

According to the concept of the Army Commander, the Army Commander also distributed vouchers for 69 para-athletes.
