Minister of Agriculture, Wildlife and Forest Resources Conservation Mahinda Amaraweera says that a proposal regarding the removal of the glyphosate ban will be submitted to the Cabinet in the next few weeks.
The minister has also decided to get opinions and suggestions from various parties regarding lifting the glyphosate ban.
This step has been taken considering the views and suggestions of agricultural experts, farmers’ representatives, farmers’ organizations as well as seed and plant producers’ association and maize importers’ association on the gazette ban of glyphosate, a powerful weed killer, should be removed in order to achieve high yields.
