The Megoda Police have arrested four people with a bowser containing 6600 liters of diesel which they had brought to Watarekata for sale, revealing a racket that sells fuel obtained from the Ceylon Petroleum Cooperation in bulk stating that it is to the factories of the Katunayake Free Trade Zone.
According to information received by the Police Station’s OIC about this fuel fraud, he has raided this racket by pretending to be a buyer. OIC has posed as a manager of a garment factory. Smugglers have also come to inspect the factory where he also showed factory.
They were ready to sell fuel here at Rs. 900 per liter.
The two brokers are two marketing managers of two companies in Sri Lanka. The other two are Bowser’s driver and assistant driver.
Investigations have revealed that the bowser belongs to a well-known company in Sri Lanka and the bowser has been obtained from Ceylon Petroleum Statutory Corporation on a rental basis.
It has also been revealed that this group has been continuously selling Bowsers of fuel.
Investigations have shown that several high-ranking officials of the Petroleum Corporation also had the support of this fraud. An investigation has been started regarding them.
