Chinese President Xi Jinping has a telephone conversation with American President Joe Biden. During the conversation held last night (28), the two leaders exchanged views on Sino-American relations and issues of mutual concern.
Seeing China as the main adversary and the most serious long-term challenge is America’s misjudgment of bilateral relations and misinterpretation of China’s development, which will mislead the people of both countries and the international community, Mr. Xi Jinping stressed. At present, China and the US should maintain communication on key issues such as coordinating macroeconomic policies, maintaining the stability of global industrial and supply chains, and ensuring global energy and food security, he said.
Also, Mr. Xi Jinping explained China’s principles and position on the Taiwan issue. Mr. Xi Jinping emphasized that the three Sino-American joint official announcements are the political commitment of both sides and that the one-China policy is the political foundation of Sino-American relations. He also said that China strongly opposes separatism and the interference of external forces in the name of “Taiwan independence”, and will leave no room for those forces. Mr. Xi Jinping also said that the position of the Chinese government and the Chinese people on the Taiwan issue is firm, and it is the strong determination of the more than 1.4 billion Chinese people to strictly protect China’s national sovereignty and territorial integrity.
Mr. Joe Biden said that today’s world is at a critical moment. American-Chinese cooperation is beneficial not only to the people of both countries but also to the people of other countries. The American president said that the recognition of the one-China policy has not changed, and that it will not change in the future, and that the US does not support Taiwan’s “independence”. He also said that relations between the two countries should be maintained through broad mutual understanding.
The two leaders also exchanged views on the Ukraine crisis.
