The Irrigation Department warns that there may be minor flooding in the low lying areas of the Attanagallu Oya and Uruwal Oya valleys in the Attanagalla, Gampaha, Minuwangoda and Ja-Ela Divisional Secretariats during the next 6 hours.
Therefore, the Irrigation Department urges the people of those areas to be vigilant in this regard.
They also point out that the risk of floods has increased due to the prevailing rainy weather.
The statement issued in this regard states:
“Most places in the Attanagallu Oya basin have received an average rainfall of over 150 mm so far. According to that rain and the analysis of the water levels of the river water meters maintained in the Attanagallu Oya basin by the Department of irrigations, the Attanagallu Oya and Uruwalla Oya valley areas in the Attanagalla, Gampaha, Minuwangoda, Ja-Ela Divisional Secretariat Divisions are at risk of significant flooding (minor flooding) within the next 06 hours.
Residents and motorists traveling in the area are urged to be vigilant in this regard. Disaster Management Divisions are requested to take necessary steps in this regard.”
