The nominations of Mr. Dullas Alahapperuma, Ranil Wickramasinghe, and Anura Kumara Dissanayake for that position were now presented in the Parliament for the election of a President by the Parliament for the post of successor President.
Accordingly, the name of Mr. Dallas Alahapperuma of the Sri Lanka Podujana Peramuna was proposed by the opposition leader Mr. Sajith Premadasa and it was confirmed by the Sri Lanka Podujana Peramuna Chairman Mr. G. L. Peiris.
The name of United National Party leader and Acting President Mr. Ranil Wickramasinghe was proposed by Sri Lanka Podujana Peramuna MP and Speaker of the House Mr. Dinesh Gunawardena. It was seconded by Samagi Janabalawega MP, Minister Manusha Nanayakkara.
The name of Mr. Anura Kumara Dissanayake, the leader of the Jathika Jana Balawegaya, was proposed by Mr. Wijitha Herath of the Jathika Jana Balawegaya and was confirmed by Mrs. Harini Amarasuriya of the same party.
Parliament was adjourned till 10 am tomorrow. Accordingly, the election of the President is scheduled to be held tomorrow.
