The Bar Association of Sri Lanka requests the Acting President to remove the emergency immediately.
In a statement, the union pointed out that the basic rights of the people such as the freedom of peaceful assembly including the freedom of speech and expression will be violated through the declaration of emergency law.
The Bar Association has emphasized that these protests, which pushed the former president to resign, cannot be controlled through the declaration of a state of emergency.
