The police have started a special investigation regarding the shooting of a group of army troops at the protesters who tried to enter the presidential palace.

The police have also submitted a B report to the Fort Court regarding the shooting. Accordingly, the place has been under the supervision of the magistrate.

A person who was shot by the army while engaged in the struggle is currently receiving treatment at the Colombo National Hospital. The patient, who is being treated in the intensive care unit with severe head injuries, was initially said to have been injured by a gunshot wound, but the doctors have now confirmed to the police that he was injured by a blow from a blunt weapon.

The shooting by the army was recorded in a security camera of a nearby bank. The police are also taking necessary steps to obtain a court order to take the footage from the camera into police custody for further investigation.

Investigating officers have paid special attention to whether the shooting at the protesters was on the orders of the Defense Secretary Mr. Kamal Gunaratne according to the will of the Senior DIG Deshbandu Tennakoon.

The police also stated that despite the rain of bullets, no blank ammunition cartridges were found at the place of firing. Since it is important to have blank ammunition cartridges to identify fired firearms, the police suspect that someone or a group of people may have taken steps to make the blank cartridges disappear. The police believe that it will be possible to detect it by checking the security camera footage.

The government analyst has even conducted an on-site inspection. Blood samples from that place have been taken by crime scene laboratory officials for investigation purposes.
