The Minister of Transport, Highways, and Mass Media Mr. Bandula Gunawardena instructed the railway authorities to immediately repair and use the 250 imported Romanian train carriages that have been out of service for more than 25 years.

The day before yesterday (02) he joined an observation tour of the Tantri company yard in Dematagoda established for the repair of train carriages.

Importing a new train carriage costs about Rs. 200 million while repairing a carriage by Tantri company established in Dematagoda for the renewal of railway carriages, costs only Rs. 20 million.

Even now, the same company has repaired and delivered 200 Romanian railway carriages and power train carriages to the Railway Department for operations.
