10 oil tankers are due to arrive – No more tokens

Electricity and Energy Minister Mr. Kanchana Wijesekera says that plans are expected to be implemented in the future to somehow reduce fuel consumption in Sri Lanka.

He points out that our country’s fuel consumption is very high compared to most other countries.

Power and Energy Minister Mr. Kanchana Wijesekera said at a special press conference today that 10 fuel ships are scheduled to reach the island.

Mr. Kanchana Wijesekera, Minister of Power and Energy, says that a stock of 40,000 metric tons of diesel purchased by CEYPECO will arrive in Sri Lanka on July 8 or 9.

It was said in a press conference held today that a stock of 135,000 metric tons of crude oil is scheduled to arrive in Sri Lanka on July 15.

Meanwhile, the Minister also said that the required amount of 11 million dollars was deposited on last 30th to obtain 7,500 metric tons from Lanka IOC Company.

Apart from that, the minister mentioned that two previous payments have been made to two other companies, and accordingly, 40,000 metric tons of auto diesel is scheduled to reach Sri Lanka on July 11-14.

The minister also said that an amount of 28 million dollars has been deposited for that stock of auto diesel.

The minister also mentioned that another amount of 49 million dollars is to be deposited for that diesel stock on the 8th of July and after that the ship will reach Sri Lanka.

In the meantime, the minister also said that no more tokens will be given.

The minister mentioned that the token was issued on June 27 only for the people who had waited in the queue until that time.

After the arrival of the fuel ships, a system will be set up and informed about the distribution of fuel and until then, the Minister requests people not to wait in queues to get tokens.

The Minister also said that the Ceylon Electricity Board has to pay more than 90 billion rupees to the Ceylon Petroleum Corporation.

Also, the Minister mentioned that the required fuel stock enough for days will not be given to the CEB but will be supplied daily according to the given plan and currently there is enough fuel for the power plants.
