Minister of Tourism and Lands Mr. Harin Fernando has said that the gas problem will be resolved after next week and several diesel ships are expected.
He also said in a press conference held yesterday that the solution to the petrol problem has also been found, but after the completion of a few other things, there is a possibility of bringing the petrol within 8 days.
Also, the minister also said that the government has detained money that it has to buy about 5 oil tankers.
The Minister gave the following information about the dates of the arrival of the oil tankers.
“There is no petrol in Sri Lanka now. We also made a big effort to bring 50,000 metric tons. Several organizations have also come. We have saved money to buy fuel for Sri Lanka. We have about 135 million dollars. The Sri Lankan government is in a position to bring about 5 ships with that. Try to be positive.
First of all, Sri Lanka’s problem was gas. The gas problem is being solved now. The Prime Minister came out and said directly that the gas problem will not come after next week. After the 10th, we have done our best to fix the fuel problem.
As far as I know, the diesel ships will arrive on the 10th, 12th, and 22nd. There is a small shortage of petrol. Someone has been given an opportunity to bring 50000 metric tons before the 10th. He should provide some more facts. After giving them, they are ready to bring petrol to Sri Lanka in 8 days after paying him an advance of 20%. We have given them a target. Sri Lanka needs 2000 metric tons of petrol per day at the moment. If we look in that manner, then we have petrol for 25 days, only from that ship. Therefore, the people who do not know that these plans exist are the ones who climb on the barricades and shout obscenities and fight,” the minister said.
