The Government Medical Officers’ Association (GMOA) says that malnutrition and nutrition problems are exacerbated today for 25% of the total population of the country i.e. over 5 million.

Its secretary Dr. Haritha Aluthge stated at a media briefing today that it includes people of all ages.

He said that 7 out of every 10 families in the country are facing the problem of having to reduce the quantity and quality of food due to the economic crisis.

According to UNICEF, Sri Lanka ranks 7th in the world in terms of child malnutrition.

He added that the situation is likely to worsen in the future due to the prevailing economic situation.

The Government Medical Officers’ Association (GMOA) has submitted a five-point proposal to the government to manage the current situation to some extent and reduce the impact of malnutrition and prevent future generations from falling prey to malnutrition.
