It is revealed at the meeting of the Committee on Public Finance that the demand for liquor in the country has decreased by about 30%.

It was revealed at the meeting of the Committee on Public Finance that the demand for liquor has decreased by about 30% due to the recent increase in the price of liquor in the country and the decrease in the income of the people of the country.

This was revealed at a meeting of the Committee on Public Finance chaired by its chairman Anura Priyadarshana Yapa in Parliament on the day before yesterday (20).

In particular, officials representing several institutions were contacted online to discuss plans to increase government revenue and their current status. Accordingly, officials representing the Ministry of Finance, Economic Stabilization and National Policies, the Inland Revenue Department, the Sri Lanka Excise Department, and the Sri Lanka Customs were contacted online.

The officials said that there were several problems in the Sri Lanka Excise Department reaching the target revenue due to the limited quantity of ethanol available for the production of liquor, a limited number of diesel stocks, and furnace oil and distribution problems. They also pointed out that the demand for alcohol has decreased by about 30% due to the increase in the price of alcohol and the economic hardships faced by the people. It was revealed that due to this there is a tendency to increase the production of illicit liquor.

The expected revenue of the Inland Revenue Department and the current situation were also discussed. Opposition Leader Sajith Premadasa was also present at the event and discussed with officials involved in the online process on how to change tax policies and take steps to improve tax administration.

In addition, the revenue expected to be obtained by the Excise Department of Sri Lanka this year was also discussed in detail.

Minister Nalin Fernando, Members of Parliament (Dr.) Harsha de Silva, Anupa Pascual and (Dr.) Kavinda Heshan Jayawardena were also present on the occasion.
