Wattala Police have arrested a businessman who was engaged in an organic fertilizer business with several firearms.
The man was arrested in 2019 as an extremist suspect on a tip-off from the public following the Easter attacks. He was later released by the CID.
The suspect is a resident of Mabole, Wattala and runs an organic fertilizer business in Eluwankulam, Puttalam, police said.
He was arrested in Eluwankulama and his hidden firearm was found hidden in a friend’s house in Mabole Wanduwatta, Wattala. Police say the friend was a resident of the United Arab Emirates and had a firearm hidden inside the house with the help of a security guard.
Among the firearms manufactured in a foreign country, there were two double-barrel firearms, one single barrel firearm, and two firearms that use 0.22 inch (22 caliber) ammunition.
