The Bar Association of Sri Lanka (BASL) says that there are more and more reports of public unrest at petrol stations in some parts of the country these days and that it is important for law enforcement officials to be patient and responsible with the public.

The union points out that it is essential that the police officers on duty should act with awareness and understanding of the severe persecution faced by the public and that law enforcement officers should always be fair and impartial.

This was emphasized in a statement issued by the Executive Committee of the Bar Association of Sri Lanka on the current situation regarding law and order.

Although people are facing severe shortages of oil, gas, and essential commodities, solutions to these problems are nowhere to be seen and several deaths have also been reported in the queues.

There have also been several deaths due to the shortage of medicine and the people are angry and frustrated by the desperate situation in the country.

Therefore, the Bar Association of Sri Lanka emphasizes that re-establishing public confidence and building public trust is a very important step in the Government’s efforts to resolve the current crisis in the country.

The Bar Association of Ceylon states that the growing public distrust of the government and law enforcement agencies could have dire consequences for the country and this could cause irreparable damage.
