Veteran singer Annesley Nanayakkara has passed away this morning (17).
He was being treated at the Anuradhapura Teaching Hospital.
He entered the art world in the 70s from the ‘Pibidena Gayaka Parapura’ program and has sung in plays such as Ediriweera Sarachchandra’s Maname and Sinhabahu.
He released a cassette tape called ‘Lapalu Latha Mandapaya’ in the ’80s and sang Yuga songs with Dr. Nandamalani, Malani Bulathsinhala, Chandralekha Perera, and Nelu Adhikari.
‘Kuveniyani Mata Sapa Nodenu Mana’, ‘Ginigath Hiru Mandalak Yata’, ‘Lapalulatha Mandaye’, ‘Buddha Diwakarayano’, ‘Badde Gam Madde’, ‘Ninda Ma Nethin’, ‘Hansa Wile Hasangana Wee’, ‘Kaiman Dorakada’, ‘Kandulu Podak’, ‘Kalpana Mawa’, ‘Numba Kooduwa Thula’, ‘Pera Bhawayaka Numba’, ‘Tharu Handawatena Ahase’, ‘Unmadineeya Obe Ruwa Gana’ etc. are some songs sung by him.
Veteran singer Annesley Nanayakkara, who was 70 at the time of his death, will be laid to rest at 3.00 pm today (17) at the residence of his brother Nihal Nanayakkara near Sarvodaya, Anuradhapura.
Funeral services will be held at 5.30 pm tomorrow (18) at the Nisala Nimnaya Public Cemetery, Anuradhapura.
